Jacks Sink Otters in Five Sets

Humboldt closes road trip with first win of the season

SEASIDE, Calif. — Cal Poly Humboldt volleyball closed out its road trip in dramatic fashion on Saturday evening, sinking the Cal State Monterey Bay Otters in five sets (25-23, 16-25, 19-25, 25-20, 15-11) at the Otter Sports Center. The victory marks the first win of the season for the Lumberjacks (1-13, 1-5 CCAA), who rallied late to edge the Otters (2-11, 1-5 CCAA) in a back-and-forth conference battle.

After dropping two of the first three sets, Humboldt found its rhythm behind steady defense and timely serving. The Jacks powered through the fourth set with a .176 hitting percentage before closing the match with an impressive .316 in the decisive fifth. Humboldt outscored the Otters 15-11 in the final frame to secure the comeback.

Graysen Trupp led the way offensively with 13 kills and four blocks, while Tatyana Jennings added nine kills and 10 digs. Amelia Perla contributed eight kills to the balanced attack in her first match of the season. From the service line, freshman Emma Fauth delivered a standout performance with a career-high five aces, while Brielle Wilson added four more to go with her team-leading 33 assists.

Defensively, Sophia Spoja anchored the back row with 15 digs, helping Humboldt hold Monterey Bay to just a .000 hitting percentage in the opening set and .000 again in the fifth. The Jacks finished with 10 service aces and seven total blocks on the night.

The win caps a two-match road swing for the Lumberjacks, who showed resilience and growth throughout the weekend.

Cal Poly Humboldt returns home to Lumberjack Arena for four straight matches over the next two weeks, beginning next Thursday at 7:00 PM against Cal State San Marcos (1-13, 0-6 CCAA). The matchup will be Dig Pink Night, encouraging fans to wear pink in support of cancer research.
