Lumberjacks Volleyball Hosts Toros for Costume Night, Travels to East Bay

ARCATA, Calif. – Cal Poly Humboldt volleyball returns home for a festive Thursday night matchup before hitting the road for its final regular-season road stretch. The Lumberjacks (1-19, 1-11 CCAA) will host Cal State Dominguez Hills on Thursday, Oct. 30 at 7 p.m. PT for Halloween Costume Night at Lumberjack Arena, encouraging fans to wear a Halloween costume in return for a trick-or-treat bag, then travel to face Cal State East Bay on Saturday, Nov. 1 at 2 p.m. PT at Pioneer Gymnasium.

LAST TIME OUT

The Lumberjacks battled tough against one of the top teams in the conference, taking a set off undefeated Cal Poly Pomona before falling 3-1 (14-25, 25-23, 11-25, 14-25). Freshman Isabella Hartwig posted a career-high 12 kills and four blocks to lead the Humboldt attack, while Graysen Trupp added 10 kills and two aces. Setter Brielle Wilson dished out 22 assists and contributed three blocks, and defenders Sophia Spoja and Kendall Fenstermacher recorded nine digs apiece.

After dropping the opening set, Humboldt came alive in the second, holding Pomona to just .068 en route to a 25-23 win. Despite the loss, the 'Jacks showed resilience and growth that they will look to build on as they return home.

CAL STATE DOMINGUEZ HILLS

Cal State Dominguez Hills (7-11, 4-8 CCAA) enters Thursday's contest having snapped a three-match skid after losses to Cal State San Marcos and Cal State San Bernardino. The team is coming off of a five-set win against Cal State LA. This will mark the one and only matchup between the Lumberjacks and Toros this season. For Humboldt, maintaining offensive rhythm and capitalizing on home-court energy will be key to breaking through against the Toros.

CAL STATE EAST BAY

Saturday's opponent, Cal State East Bay (11-9, 8-4 CCAA), has been one of the top teams in the CCAA this season, riding a recent stretch of strong play. The Pioneers had won six of their last seven games before dropping one on the road against San Francisco State. The 'Jacks will look to match East Bay's pace and continue their improved blocking effort, which tallied seven team blocks against Pomona last weekend. This will be the first of two total matchups against the Lumberjacks this season.
