MERCED, Calif. — Cal Poly Humboldt men's soccer dropped a 2-0 decision on the road Friday afternoon to UC Merced in a non-conference matchup.
After a scoreless first half, the Jacks (2-11-2, 0-7-1 CCAA) held strong defensively before the Bobcats (3-8-3, 2-5-1 CCAA) broke through late in the match. UC Merced's Davian Lizarraga netted the game's opening goal in the 77th minute, assisted by Jake Perkins. The Bobcats doubled their advantage seven minutes later when Thomas Knierieme scored off a setup from Omar Garcia.
Humboldt generated its best offensive pressure in the second half, posting all 10 of its shots after halftime, including four on target. The Jacks also earned three second-half corner kicks but couldn't convert their chances into goals.
Goalkeepers Edwin Monterrosa and Benjamin McDonald combined for six saves, keeping the Jacks within striking distance for much of the contest.
Humboldt will look to regroup as they return to College Creeek Field for the final regular-season home match on Sunday, November 2 against Cal State Monterey Bay. Kickoff is set for 2:00 PM. Free admission is presented by DANCO at College Creek Field for all home regular season matches.
