ARCATA, Calif. – Cal Poly Humboldt women's volleyball (1-14, 1-6 CCAA) came out firing in front of the home crowd on Dig Pink Night at Lumberjack Arena, jumping ahead 2-0 before Cal State San Marcos (2-13, 1-6 CCAA) rallied to take a hard-fought five-set victory, 3-2 (25-22, 25-17, 17-25, 18-25, 11-15).
The Lumberjacks looked in full control through the opening two sets, executing a crisp offensive rhythm and applying relentless pressure from the service line. Graysen Trupp led the charge early, tallying six kills and two service aces in the first frame as Humboldt closed out the set, 25-22. Brielle Wilson added four kills and kept the Cougars off balance with quick transitions and accurate setting.
Humboldt carried that momentum into the second set, taking control with a dominant stretch midway through. Behind Wilson's steady setting and Trupp's high-volume hitting, the 'Jacks pulled away 25-17 to build a 2-0 lead. The home crowd erupted as Humboldt limited San Marcos to a .192 hitting percentage while landing six service aces in the set.
The match turned in the third, as Cal State San Marcos regrouped and flipped the script offensively. The Cougars took the third set 25-17, capitalizing on attack errors and long rallies. Despite several key defensive plays from Kendall Fenstermacher and Isabella Hartwig, Humboldt struggled to regain its rhythm.
The fourth frame followed a similar pattern, with San Marcos finding momentum behind a balanced attack and timely serving. Humboldt fought back late in the set, highlighted by Emma Fauth's ace and a block from Hartwig, but the Cougars forced a decisive fifth set with a 25-18 win.
In the final set, the 'Jacks traded points early and trailed just 12-10 after a Trupp ace, but San Marcos managed to close it out 15-11 despite a late Humboldt timeout.
Trupp finished with a team-high 14 kills and five aces, while Wilson turned in a well-rounded performance with 11 kills, 20 assists, and 15 digs, marking her first career triple-double. Hartwig added six kills and two solo blocks, and Elizabeth Jade Andrade recorded 22 digs (career-high) and 7 assists in her role.
