Volleyball Hosts San Marcos and San Bernardino Following First Win of the Season

ARCATA, Calif. – Cal Poly Humboldt volleyball returns home to Lumberjack Arena this week for a pair of conference matchups after earning its first victory of the season on the road against Cal State Monterey Bay. The Lumberjacks (1-13, 1-5 CCAA) will face Cal State San Marcos on Thursday, Oct. 9 at 7 p.m. PT, followed by Cal State San Bernardino on Saturday, Oct. 11 at 2 p.m. PT.

Thursday's match will occur on Dig Pink Night, where fans are encouraged to wear pink in support of cancer research. Saturday's game will feature Camper and Classmates Reunion Night.

LAST TIME OUT

The Lumberjacks capped their Central Coast road trip with a five-set thriller, outlasting Cal State Monterey Bay 3-2 (25-23, 16-25, 19-25, 25-20, 15-11) for their first win of the season. Humboldt rallied after dropping two of the first three sets, finding momentum behind a balanced offensive attack and strong defensive play.

Outside hitter Graysen Trupp paced the 'Jacks with 13 kills and four blocks, while Tatyana Jennings added nine kills and 10 digs. Amelia Perla contributed eight kills in her season debut, and freshman Emma Fauth delivered a career-high five service aces. Setter Brielle Wilson tallied 33 assists and four aces, while Sophia Spoja anchored the defense with 15 digs.

Humboldt posted 10 service aces and seven total blocks in the win, sealing the match with a .316 hitting percentage in the decisive fifth set. The victory capped a weekend that showcased the team's progress and resilience on the court.

CHASING COUGARS

Cal State San Marcos (1-13, 0-6 CCAA) enters Thursday's match on a 12 game losing streak, with their most recent win occurring against Minot State over a month ago. While the Cougars have been on the winning side of things in recent matchups against the Lumberjacks, Humboldt will look to continue both their winning streak and the Cougars' losing streak.

For Humboldt, maintaining the serving pressure that proved pivotal in its first win will be key. The 'Jacks will aim to build on last week's rhythm and feed off their home crowd in the first of two matches at Lumberjack Arena.

CONTAINING THE COYOTES

Cal State San Bernardino (9-4, 4-2 CCAA) comes to Arcata on a strong run, having established itself as one of the top teams in the conference once again. The Coyotes' offense has been among the league's most efficient, demanding precision and patience from Humboldt's defensive unit.

In their most recent matchup, the 'Jacks came out on top in a tight 3-2 win. The 'Jacks will look to continue their upward trajectory and test themselves against one of the CCAA's perennial contenders. A well-rounded performance on both sides of the net could help Humboldt make a statement heading into the midseason stretch.
