EUREKA, Calif. – Cal Poly Humboldt Wrestling opened its 2025-26 campaign in commanding fashion, sweeping through the competition at the Redwood Duals on Saturday to claim the tournament championship. The Lumberjacks finished 3-0 on the day with decisive wins over College of the Redwoods, Sierra College, and Southwestern Oregon Community College. Sophomore 149-pound standout Jayson Victoria was named Outstanding Wrestler of the Tournament after an undefeated performance highlighted by dominant technical falls and pins.
Humboldt 56, College of the Redwoods 0
The Lumberjacks opened the duals with a flawless performance against the host Corsairs, taking every bout en route to a 56-0 shutout. Humboldt recorded six pins and four forfeits, setting the tone for the day.
Highlights included Kaden Martinez's lightning-fast fall in just 24 seconds at 184 pounds and Nathan Vasquez's first-period pin in 1:56 at 174. Travion Jones, Gil Mossburg, and Sam Weinberg also earned victories, while Garen Keshishian and Ben Quilpa picked up early forfeits to start the dual.
Humboldt 41, Sierra College 6
Humboldt's second dual of the day saw the 'Jacks overpower Sierra College with a balanced mix of pins, technical falls, and decision victories.
Victoria delivered a highlight-reel performance at 149 pounds, earning a 19-3 technical fall in 6:33 over Sierra's Nick Bulanin. Caleb Tatad opened the dual with a 15-0 tech fall in just 2:26, while Frank Almaguer (165) and Nathan Vasquez (174) each secured first-period pins. Sage Adie added a dominant 21-5 tech fall at 184, and Liam Clark capped the dual with a 7-2 decision at heavyweight.
Humboldt 42, Southwestern Oregon CC 2
The Lumberjacks closed out the day with another overwhelming performance, winning nine of ten matches against Southwestern Oregon. Humboldt collected six pins and a pair of technical falls in the 42-2 victory.
Victoria continued his strong form, pinning Christopher Frost in just 2:04. Tatad, Neiwert, Almaguer, and Garner all added falls of their own, while Perez notched an 18-2 tech fall at 157. Adie battled through a back-and-forth match to earn a 12-11 decision at 184, and Kaden Martinez picked up a forfeit win at 174.
With their dominant 3-0 finish, the Lumberjacks showcased depth, aggression, and early-season form across all weight classes.
Cal Poly Humboldt will return to action next weekend at the Mike Clock Open in Oregon, where the 'Jacks will continue to build momentum heading into the heart of their schedule.
