HAYWARD, Calif. – Cal Poly Humboldt volleyball battled through three competitive sets on the road Saturday afternoon but came up short against Cal State East Bay, falling 3-0 (15-25, 23-25, 25-27) inside Pioneer Gymnasium.
The Lumberjacks (2-20, 2-12 CCAA) showed resilience throughout the match, improving their attack in each set and nearly forcing a fourth frame in a tightly contested finish.
Graysen Trupp paced Humboldt with 10 kills, three blocks, and two aces, continuing her strong two-way play. Kendall Fenstermacher and Isabella Hartwig each added six kills, while Fenstermacher contributed nine digs and a pair of aces.
Brielle Wilson guided the offense with 24 assists and matched Sophia Spoja for the team lead with 13 digs. Spoja also added three assists and anchored the back row defense.
As a team, the Jacks recorded 35 kills, eight aces, and 52 digs, hitting .121 on the day.
Cal State East Bay (13-9, 10-4 CCAA) was led by Jada Stone's nine kills and Pi'ilani Carvalho's 27 assists and three aces. The Pioneers hit .227 and tallied 10 total blocks, with Fane Paua leading the way at the net with seven.
The Jacks will hit the road next week and continue their CCAA regular-season slate, playing at Cal State LA (15-5, 11-2 CCAA) on Friday at 5:00 PM and at Cal State San Bernardino (15-5, 10-3 CCAA) on Saturday at 7:00 PM.
