ARCATA, Calif. -- Darrell Nanpuya was announced on Wednesday by the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) as MPSF Wrestler of the Week.
The freshman 141-pounder has been on a tear, most recently going 2-0 in his matches this past weekend in Sacramento at the Curtis Shurkamp Dual Meet. He pinned his San Francisco State opponent and helped the 'Jacks defeat the nationally ranked No. 20 Gators. Nanpuya also secured a 20-4 victory by tech fall against his opponent from Sacramento City College, a former Division I wrestler, contributing to the Lumberjacks' 5-0 start on the season.
Previously at the Mike Clock Open in Oregon, Nanpuya won his weight class and dominated the pack. He defeated his Division I opponent from Oregon State by a 7-3 decision in the 141 pound semifinals, then brought home the title later that day.
Nanpuya will look to continue his early season dominance at the Roadrunner Open this Sunday in Bakersfield.
