Humboldt’s Storybook Season Concludes in Hard-Fought NCAA Tournament Match at Pomona

HUM Postgame Presser

POMONA, Calif. — A historic season for Cal Poly Humboldt women's soccer came to an end Friday afternoon, as the Lumberjacks fell 1-0 to defending national champion and 2025 CCAA regular-season winner Cal Poly Pomona in the first round of the NCAA Division II Tournament at Kellogg Stadium.

Making just their second NCAA Tournament appearance in program history—and their first in 29 years—the Lumberjacks (8-6-8, 4-2-5 CCAA) capped off a remarkable postseason run that included their first-ever CCAA Tournament Championship last week.

The decisive goal came in the 32nd minute when Pomona's Kiarra D'Arcangelo found space outside the box and curled a perfectly placed shot past the Humboldt keeper to the upper corner, giving the Broncos (15-2-3, 7-1-3 CCAA) the lone tally of the match.

Despite trailing at halftime, Humboldt came out aggressive in the second half, keeping Pomona on its heels with several dangerous chances in the attacking third. The 'Jacks pushed for an equalizer throughout the final 45 minutes, earning three corner kicks and forcing two key saves, but the Broncos' championship-caliber backline and goalkeeper held firm to preserve the shutout.

Both teams finished even in fouls (9-9) and corners (3-3), with Humboldt holding a 3-1 advantage in second-half corners. The Broncos outshot the 'Jacks 16-4, including a 6-2 margin in shots on goal. Humboldt's goalkeepers recorded five saves in the match to keep the 'Jacks within striking distance.

The defeat closes the season series at 1-1-1 between the two Cal Poly programs.

The Lumberjacks' 2025 campaign ends with milestones across the board—a CCAA title, a return to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1996, and a program-defining run that cements this team's place in Humboldt history.
