Lumberjacks Drop Sprite Tundra Tip-Off Opener to Alaska Anchorage

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Cal Poly Humboldt men's basketball opened the Sprite Tundra Tip-Off, hosted by the University of Alaska Anchorage at the Alaska Airlines Center, with a 63–50 defeat to the Seawolves on Friday night. The Lumberjacks move to 2–3 overall while host UAA improves to 7–2.

Zaveion Bineyard paced the Jacks with a team-high 16 points, hitting 5-of-12 from the field and 2-of-3 from long range while also adding five rebounds and a steal in 37 minutes. Drew Ardouin joined him in double figures with 10 points, two assists, and a pair of three-pointers.

Humboldt shot 40.5% from the field and 38.1% from three (8-for-21), but Alaska Anchorage capitalized on turnovers, converting them into 20 points. The Seawolves also held a 30–16 advantage in the paint, using their size and ball movement—22 assists on 25 made field goals—to maintain control throughout the night.

The Jacks trailed 33–25 at halftime after UAA posted a hot shooting start, including 50% from three in the opening period. Humboldt continued to battle in the second half behind perimeter makes from Bineyard, Ardouin, and Brandon Bento-Jackson, but the Seawolves' balanced scoring—three players finishing with 12 or more points—kept the hosts in front.

Rob Jenkins contributed across the board with four points, six assists, and six rebounds, while Shakir Odunewu anchored the interior with eight rebounds and four points. Bento-Jackson added six points, and the Humboldt bench supplied 10 points, led by Dorrell Thomas' four and a three from Michael Sarden.

Alaska Anchorage shot 46.3% overall and matched Humboldt with eight threes. Sylas Williams led the Seawolves with 13 points and eight boards.

The matchup featured no ties or lead changes, as UAA controlled the scoreboard from start to finish.

Cal Poly Humboldt returns to action on Saturday for its second game of the Sprite Tundra Tip-Off, taking on the University of Alaska Fairbanks at 6:15 PM PT (5:15 PM AKST).
