ARCATA, Calif. -- Cal Poly Humboldt women's basketball rode a dominant offensive performance—highlighted by six players scoring in double figures—to earn its first victory of the 2025–26 campaign, defeating Jessup 88–67 on Saturday afternoon inside Lumberjack Arena.
The Jacks (1–3) controlled the game from the opening tip and used a commanding 30-point third quarter to put the contest out of reach.
"It was certainly nice to get the win today," stated head coach Michelle Bento-Jackson. "It was a total team effort and I'm proud of the team for putting a complete game together on both ends of the floor. I thought our ball movement took a step in the right direction today and we had great balance. I'm constantly challenging the team with their defensive intensity for forty minutes and today they were consistent in that area. I'm also very happy for and proud of those who came off the bench today. They gave great minutes. We need to continue to learn and improve and show progress week to week."
Six in Double Figures Fuel First Win
Humboldt's balanced scoring effort powered the victory, with Kya Kanoho and Leamsi Acuna leading the way with 15 points apiece. Acuna caught fire from deep, knocking down five threes on 5-of-7 shooting, while Kanoho added three rebounds, two assists, and a steal in 31 minutes.
Sienna Cherwinski added 13 points—including three made threes—while Riley Sanz delivered 14 points and four rebounds off the bench.
Shade Satica and Jada Barnes rounded out the double-digit scorers. Satica recorded a dominant double-double with 11 points and 15 rebounds, while Barnes stuffed the stat sheet with 11 points and eight assists, helping Humboldt finish with 19 team assists.
Jacks Turn Defense Into Offense
Humboldt forced 25 Jessup turnovers and converted them into 40 points, fueling multiple runs that built separation. The Jacks' 38 bench points and 16 made three-pointers also proved to be decisive.
Leading 47–36 at halftime, Humboldt exploded out of the locker room—shooting 63% in the third quarter—to extend the lead to 77–56 entering the fourth. From there, the Jacks closed out a complete performance on both ends of the floor.
