Nanpuya Wins at 141 as Cal Poly Humboldt Excels at Mike Clock Open

FOREST GROVE, Ore. — The Cal Poly Humboldt men's wrestling team delivered a strong showing at the Mike Clock Open on Sunday, highlighted by Darrell Nanpuya's championship performance at 141 pounds. Nanpuya dominated his weight class, defeating multiple opponents en route to the title—including a signature win over a Division I opponent from Oregon State in the semifinals—before sealing the crown with a gritty 7–6 decision in the final.

Nanpuya's run was part of a standout day for the Lumberjacks, who had multiple podium finishers across the lineup.

At 149 pounds, Jayson Victoria powered his way to the championship match after a semifinal pin over Oregon State's Ayden Garver. Victoria finished second overall following an impressive string of bonus-point wins in the early rounds.

Nathan Vasquez battled his way to a third-place finish at 174 pounds, rebounding from a semifinal loss to earn victories in both the consolation semifinal and placement matches. At 165, Frank Almaguer continued his strong start to the season with a fourth-place finish, notching three victories including a 47-second fall in the consolation semifinals.

Humboldt also saw several wrestlers finish in third but were unable to compete in placement matches due to the six-match NCAA daily limit. Those wrestlers included Josh Neiwert (133), Tallon Chambers (141), Joe Anthony Perez (157), and Eric Ruiz (184)—each of whom battled through deep brackets to reach placement rounds.

Additional Lumberjacks finishing in the top six were:

The Lumberjacks return to action next Saturday at the Curtis Shurkamp Dual Meet, hosted by Sacramento City College at Sacramento State University, as they continue their early-season slate against Sacramento City at 12:00 PM and No. 20 ranked San Francisco State at 3:00 PM.
