SEASIDE, Calif. — Cal Poly Humboldt men's basketball closed out the non-conference slate with an impressive road victory on Saturday afternoon, outlasting Cal State Monterey Bay 83–72 in a tightly contested battle at Otter Sports Center.
The matchup lived up to its intensity from start to finish, featuring 14 lead changes and six ties as neither team could gain separation through the opening 30 minutes. The Lumberjacks broke through late behind balanced scoring, timely shooting, and a dominant effort from the bench to pull away in the final stretch.
Wayne Hampton III delivered the standout performance of the day, pouring in a career-high 22 points on 5-of-8 shooting while going 9-of-10 from the free-throw line. Hampton also knocked down three triples and repeatedly came up big in momentum-shifting moments as Humboldt seized control in the second half.
Rob Jenkins provided a complete all-around effort off the bench, finishing with 19 points, six rebounds, and four assists in 29 minutes. Jenkins' ability to score at all three levels and facilitate offense played a key role in Humboldt's second-half surge.
The Lumberjacks received valuable contributions across the lineup, including Drew Ardouin, who added 12 points on an efficient shooting night, and Zaveion Bineyard, who recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, anchoring the interior. Shakir Odunewu chipped in eight points and eight boards, helping Humboldt control the glass during key stretches.
Cal Poly Humboldt's depth proved decisive, as the Jacks outscored Monterey Bay 44–30 in bench points, wearing down the Otters over the final 20 minutes. After a 32–32 tie at halftime, Humboldt shot nearly 48 percent from the floor in the second half and went 16-of-22 from the free-throw line to steadily extend the margin.
With the win, the Lumberjacks improved to 4–6 overall and 2–2 in CCAA play, snapping Monterey Bay's momentum and closing the calendar year on a high note.
The Jacks will return to action at home in 2026, hosting a CCAA weekend doubleheader at Lumberjack Arena. Humboldt will take on Cal State Dominguez Hills on Friday, January 2 at 7:30 p.m. for Hometown Heroes Night, before welcoming Cal State Los Angeles on Sunday, January 4 at 3:00 p.m. for Youth/Camper Day.
