Lumberjack Men Open Indoor Season With NCAA Provisional Vault, School Records, and Heptathlon Breakthroughs in Reno

RENO, Nev. — The Cal Poly Humboldt Men's Indoor Track & Field team launched its 2025 campaign with an exceptional showing at the Silver State Invitational & Multis, highlighted by an NCAA provisional mark in the pole vault, six new indoor school records, and standout performances across sprints, multis, and throws.


DAY 1 – Thursday

Heptathletes Set Tone With PR-Filled Opening Day

The Jacks kicked off competition with promising momentum in the men's heptathlon.

Collin Friedman delivered a balanced and impressive first day, posting large personal bests in the 60m and shot put, and finishing within 2cm of his lifetime bests in both the long jump and high jump. His all-around consistency placed him 10th overall and 2nd among Division II athletes heading into Day 2. His long jump of 21' 6.75" marks a new indoor school record. 

Isaak Kasso also opened strong, notching a big lifetime PR in the 60m and a near-best performance in the shot put.
 

DAY 2 – Friday

Collin Nears NCAA Standard; Isaak Wins 60H; School Record Falls in 400m; Two Jacks Tie High Jump School Record

The heptathlon finale highlighted another day of significant progress for the Jacks.

  • Collin Friedman delivered PRs in the 60-meter hurdles and tied his PR in the pole vault, closing out his first indoor heptathlon with 4,671 points. He finished first among indoor heptathletes, 7th overall, and just 80 points shy of an NCAA provisional mark.

  • Isaak Kasso earned a major event win, clocking a lifetime-best 8.50 to win the 60-meter hurdles, and tied his PR in the pole vault to complete an impressive all-around performance.

Men's High Jump — Dillon & Bondurant Tie Indoor School Record

The Jacks added another milestone in the field events as both Alexander Dillon and Gabriel Bondurant cleared 1.90m (6-02.75), tying the Cal Poly Humboldt indoor school record.

  • Alexander Dillon — 1.90m (6-02.75)
    Attempts: 1.75 (—), 1.80 (O), 1.85 (O), 1.90 (O), 1.95 (XXX)

  • Gabriel Bondurant — 1.90m (6-02.75)
    Attempts: 1.75 (—), 1.80 (XXO), 1.85 (O), 1.90 (O), 1.95 (XXX)

The pair now share the No. 1 mark in school history, adding depth and momentum to the Jacks' vertical jumps squad.

400 Meters — School Record + Heat Wins

The momentum carried onto the track, where the Lumberjacks delivered one of the program's all-time best 400m days:

DAY 3 – Saturday

Michael Payan Hits NCAA Provo in Pole Vault and School Record; Joseph Gonzalez Breaks Shot Put Record

Saturday brought another national-caliber achievement as Michael Payan soared to a 16-8.75 clearance in the pole vault — a deep NCAA provisional mark and a new Cal Poly Humboldt indoor school record.

The momentum continued in the throws, where Gonzalez unleashed a 15.89m effort to win the men's shot put and establish another indoor school record.

The 'Jacks will be training and preparing for the 2026 calendar, as their next event is the Riverfront Invitational and Multi's in Spokane, Washington at The Podium from February 5-7.
