ARCATA, Calif. – Cal Poly Humboldt men's soccer will travel away for the first time this season as the Lumberjacks travel to Honolulu, Hawai'i to take on Chaminade on Thursday, Sept. 11, at 5 p.m. PT. The match marks the start of a two-game Hawai'i road swing before Humboldt returns to California for a challenging stretch of four road contests leading into CCAA play.
LAST TIME OUT
The Lumberjacks (0-1-1) closed out their opening homestand with a 4-1 loss to Menlo College on Sunday afternoon at College Creek Field. Humboldt battled to the final whistle, breaking through in the 90th minute when freshman Nic Moore found the back of the net with a low strike off an assist from junior Cooper Stephens. Moore led the 'Jacks offensively with two shots, including one on target and his first career goal in just six minutes played.
Defensively, Humboldt endured a physical match that featured six yellow cards and one red card between the two sides. The defense was under immense pressure for the entirety of the game from Menlo's offense. Despite the loss, the Lumberjacks stayed aggressive in set-piece situations, earning seven corner kicks and maintaining competitive possession throughout the second half.
CHARGING AT CHAMINADE
Chaminade enters the contest looking to defend its home field and continue building early-season momentum. The Silverswords will have only participated in two exhibition matches against Whitworth going into Thursday, where they went 0-1-1.
This marks the first matchup in history between the Lumberjacks and Silverswords, which will make for an unpredictable and exciting match. The matchup will provide Humboldt with an opportunity to rebound on the road and capture its first victory of the season. The 'Jacks will look to build on their late offensive surge against Menlo and tighten up defensively to set the tone for the remainder of their non-conference schedule.
