ARCATA, Calif. – The 2025 Redwood Coast Volleyball Classic began on Thursday as Cal Poly Humboldt's volleyball team hosted two high-caliber matchups at Lumberjack Arena. The Lumberjacks faced two tough opponents, Oklahoma Christian and Oklahoma Baptist, in the opening games of the tournament, which saw them challenged by strong teams from the Lone Star and Great American Conferences.
Game 1: Oklahoma Christian 3, Cal Poly Humboldt 1
Set Scores: 19-25 25-23, 21-25, 16-25
In the opening match, Cal Poly Humboldt proved tough but ultimately fell to Oklahoma Christian 3-1. Despite a strong effort in the second set, where the Lumberjacks managed to push past Oklahoma Christian with a 25-23 victory, the Eagles dominated the other sets with consistent attacking and solid defense.
Oklahoma Christian was led by Annie Davis with 14 kills, while Chloe Jones contributed 13 kills and Macey Nehring paced the defense with 25 digs. For Humboldt, Tatyana Jennings and Addison Bookstaber each tallied 12 kills in a balanced offensive attack. Rahni Greene posted 4 blocks, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Eagles' potent offense.

Later in the evening, the Lumberjacks faced another tough opponent in Oklahoma Baptist, falling in straight sets 3-0. While Humboldt showed improvement in the third set, the Oklahoma Baptist offense was too much to handle, with the team finishing the match with a .351 hitting percentage.
Oklahoma Baptist's Allie Stricker led the way with 11 kills, and the team's defense was anchored by Rylee Unruh, who had 11 digs. For Humboldt, Sadie Scott, Rahni Greene, and Addison Bookstaber each had 7 kills, but the offense struggled to find consistency.

Cal Poly Humboldt (0-6) will continue to compete in the Redwood Coast Volleyball Classic on Friday, September 12, when they take on Jessup Universtiy (1-1) in the Redwood Coast Volleyball Classic. The Lumberjacks will look to build on the lessons learned from today's matches as they seek their first win of the season.
