SEASIDE, Calif. – Cal Poly Humboldt men's soccer returns to action on Thursday, Sept. 25, when the Lumberjacks travel south to face Cal State Monterey Bay at 7 p.m. PT at Cardinale Stadium. Following the match, the Lumberjacks will face Lincoln University on Saturday, Sept. 27 at 11 a.m. PT. Both contests mark the final week of non-conference play before Humboldt dives into the rigors of its CCAA schedule.
LAST TIME OUT
The Lumberjacks (2-3-1) closed out their Oregon road swing with a 3-0 loss to Western Oregon last Saturday. Despite a strong defensive effort, Humboldt was limited to just two shots on the day, while the Wolves tallied 17, including nine on frame. Western Oregon scored just before halftime and added goals in the 58th and 86th minutes to pull away.
Goalkeeper Edwin Monterrosa stood tall in net, collecting six saves to keep the Jacks within reach. Ultimately, it was not enough for the Lumberjacks as the offense remained stagnant throughout the match.
OUTPLAYING THE OTTERS
Cal State Monterey Bay (2-2) enters Thursday's contest looking to stack another victory on top of their two-game win streak. The Otters are coming off of a 1-0 win against Jessup and a 4-2 victory over Vanguard, which gives the Otters a bit of confidence heading into their matchup with the 'Jacks.
The Lumberjacks hold the upper hand against the Otters all-time (12-10-3), but fell 3-1 in their most recent contest from last season. Humboldt will look to bounce back and re-discover the offensive spark that helped them secure two early-season victories. This will also serve as a key tune-up for both programs as CCAA play approaches.
LIMITING LINCOLN
Lincoln University (4-1-1) opened the season undefeated until their most recent matchup against Pacific Union, where they took a 1-0 defeat to spoil their lossless run.
Humboldt was able to squeak out a win in their one and only meeting, beating Lincoln 3-2 in an offensive battle. The 'Jacks will look to repeat history in their last game of non-conference play.
