ARCATA, Calif. – Cal Poly Humboldt men's soccer opened its 2025 campaign with a hard-fought 0-0 draw against Jessup University at College Creek Field on Thursday afternoon.
The Jacks (0-0-1) and Warriors (0-0-1) traded chances throughout the 90 minutes, but neither side could break through in a tightly contested defensive battle.
Goalkeeper Benjamin McDonald anchored the Lumberjacks' back line, recording five saves to earn his first clean sheet of the season. McDonald's composure in net was tested early and often, including four second-half stops that kept the Warriors off the board.
Offensively, Humboldt generated nine shots, with two on target. Harper Thweatt led the attack with two shots, including one of the team's two shots on goal, while Gavin Gartner and John Warnell also registered multiple attempts. Paris Ruiz added the Jacks' other shot on frame.
The match featured a physical tone, with Humboldt seeing six players booked over the course of the afternoon. Despite the aggressive play, the Jacks' defensive shape held firm, limiting Jessup to just two corner kicks and stifling several late pushes.
Both teams finished with two corner kicks apiece, and Jessup held a narrow edge in total shots (11-9).
Cal Poly Humboldt will look to build on its defensive momentum as it continues its homestand at College Creek Field this Sunday versus Menlo College at 2:00 PM.
