Humboldt Escapes Shutout in 90th Minute Against Menlo College

ARCATA, Calif. – Cal Poly Humboldt men's soccer closed out its weekend match against Menlo College on Sunday, falling 4-1 at College Creek Field. Despite the defeat, the Lumberjacks (0-1-1) found a late spark and generated several positive takeaways to build on heading into their road trip to Hawai'i.

Menlo came out strong, netting two goals in the opening half before adding two more after the break to extend its lead. The Lumberjacks (0-1-1) fought until the final whistle and were rewarded in the 90th minute when freshman Nic Moore buried a shot in the low left corner off a pass from junior Cooper Stephens, breaking through to put Humboldt on the scoreboard and denying Menlo the shutout.

Humboldt finished the match with seven total shots, five of which were on target. Moore led the way offensively with three shots, including the first goal of his Humboldt career. Stephens provided the assist and added another shot while senior forward Paris Ruiz, sophomore Nathan Murff, and junior defender Robert Somerville each registered a shot on goal as well.

Defensively, Humboldt found themselves involved in a physical contest that featured a combined six yellow cards and one red card.
