ARCATA, Calif. – Cal Poly Humboldt men's wrestling returns to Lumberjack Arena on Friday, Jan. 16, hosting Menlo in an MPSF dual matchup scheduled at 7:00 p.m. PT. The meet marks Humboldt's first home competition since returning from the 35th Annual Tracy Borah Duals in Gunnison, Colorado.
The Lumberjacks enter the weekend looking to build on valuable experience gained against a challenging field of ranked Division II opponents at the Tracy Borah Duals, while shifting focus back to conference competition in front of the home crowd.
LAST TIME OUT
Humboldt most recently competed at the Tracy Borah Duals, facing No. 18 Colorado Mesa, (RV) Western Colorado and No. 16 Adams State in a demanding round-robin format. While the Lumberjacks came up short in the team results, several individual performances stood out against nationally competitive programs.
Josh Neiwert led Humboldt's effort across the weekend, earning victories in all three duals. Neiwert recorded a technical fall against Colorado Mesa, followed by a first-period pin versus Western Colorado and a decision win against Adams State, showcasing consistency and offensive pressure throughout the event.
The Lumberjacks also picked up key falls against Western Colorado, including Darrell Nanpuya at 141 pounds and Nathan Vasquez at 174, while Jayson Victoria added a decision win at 149. Humboldt battled to a tight 27-21 team score against Western Colorado, highlighting the squad's ability to compete in close duals.
The Borah Duals provided Humboldt with extensive mat time against physical, experienced lineups, serving as a measuring stick as the team prepares for the heart of the MPSF schedule.
MEETING MENLO AT THE MATS
Menlo visits Arcata for an MPSF dual that carries important conference implications as the MPSF Championships approach. The Oaks bring a balanced lineup and dual-meet experience that will test Humboldt across all weight classes.
For the Lumberjacks, the matchup represents an opportunity to apply lessons learned from the Borah Duals, tighten execution, and capitalize on home-mat energy. Humboldt will look for continued excellence from Neiwert, along with contributions from its middle and upper weights, as the team aims to establish momentum in conference play.
