Wrestling Hosts Simon Fraser, Vanguard in Final Home Matches of Season on Friday

ARCATA, Calif. – Cal Poly Humboldt men's wrestling returns to Lumberjack Arena on Friday, Jan. 23 for a pair of home duals, welcoming Simon Fraser at 5:30 p.m. PT before closing the night against Vanguard at 7:00 p.m. PT. The doubleheader marks a key stretch of action as the Lumberjacks continue preparations for the conference championships the following weekend. These two duals on Friday will be the final opportunity to watch wrestling at home this season.

Humboldt will look to build momentum on its home mats, using the energy of a packed Lumberjack Arena to fuel two important matchups against regional opponents.

LAST TIME OUT

The Lumberjacks most recently competed in an MPSF dual against Menlo, their first home meet following the 35th Annual Tracy Borah Duals. Humboldt showcased competitiveness across the lineup, applying lessons learned from a demanding early-season slate against nationally-ranked programs. Many wrestlers were unable to wrestle due to illness or injury, providing a great opportunity for freshman and sophomores to gain valuable experience.

Eric Ruiz had a strong run at 184 pounds, providing the best chance at scoring for the 'Jacks. Humboldt also leaned on contributions throughout the middle weights, as the squad focused on tightening execution and building rhythm in conference competition.

The Menlo dual, combined with the experience gained at the Tracy Borah Duals, offered valuable mat time as Humboldt sharpens its lineup ahead of these two matches and the MPSF Championships.

DOUBLEHEADER DUALS AT LUMBERJACK ARENA

Simon Fraser opens the night with a 5:30 p.m. dual, bringing a physical lineup that will test Humboldt's depth across all weight classes. The Lumberjacks will look to establish early momentum, emphasizing pace and positional control as they continue conference championship preparation.

Vanguard follows at 7:00 p.m., closing the evening with a critical MPSF matchup. The Lions present a contrasting style that will challenge Humboldt's adaptability, particularly in the upper weights. For the Lumberjacks, the back-to-back format provides an opportunity to showcase conditioning, depth, and resilience on the home mats.

Across both duals, Humboldt will aim for continued leadership from Neiwert and Victoria, along with key performances from its middle and upper weights, as the team looks to gain traction heading toward the MPSF Championships.
