Humboldt Sweeps Chico State for First Time Since 2015 with Dominant 96-77 Road Win

CHICO, Calif. — The Cal Poly Humboldt men's basketball team delivered a statement performance Saturday afternoon, rolling past Chico State (6-9, 4-6 CCAA) 96-77 inside Art Acker Gym to complete a season sweep of the Wildcats for the first time since 2015.

The Lumberjacks (9-7, 7-3 CCAA) dominated on Chico State's home floor, shooting a blistering 63.0 percent from the field and 54.5 percent from three-point range. Humboldt knocked down 12 triples on the day and controlled the game offensively from start to finish, pulling away in the second half after taking a 45-40 lead into the break.

Brandon Bento-Jackson led the charge with one of the most efficient performances of his career, tying his career highs with six made three-pointers and 20 points. The junior went 6-for-9 from beyond the arc and finished 7-of-11 from the field while playing a game-high 38 minutes.

Zaveion Bineyard delivered a dominant all-around outing, pouring in a game-high 22 points on an ultra-efficient 10-of-12 shooting. Shakir Odunewu continued his strong stretch of play, recording his second consecutive double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds in just 19 minutes, going a perfect 6-for-6 from the floor.

Drew Ardouin provided a major spark off the bench, scoring 17 points on 4-of-6 shooting and a perfect 6-for-6 mark at the free throw line, while knocking down three three-pointers. Wayne Hampton III orchestrated the offense with eight assists to go along with nine points, helping Humboldt rack up 15 assists on 34 made field goals.

Humboldt asserted its physicality and depth throughout the contest, outscoring Chico State 42-36 in the paint and holding a decisive 20-3 advantage in bench points. The Lumberjacks also maintained their offensive efficiency in the second half, shooting over 60 percent from the floor after halftime to steadily build their lead.

With the win, Cal Poly Humboldt sits firmly in control of third place in the CCAA standings as the calendar turns toward a pivotal homestand.

The Lumberjacks return to Lumberjack Arena next week for a big slate of conference games, beginning Thursday at 7:30 p.m. against Cal Poly Pomona (9-7, 4-6 CCAA), followed by a Saturday afternoon matchup at 3:00 p.m. versus Cal State San Bernardino (8-9, 5-5 CCAA).
