Lumberjacks Rally Twice to Earn Draw at Fresno Pacific

FRESNO, Calif. - Cal Poly Humboldt women's soccer answered a pair of deficits to secure a 2-2 draw against Fresno Pacific on Saturday afternoon at Ramirez Field. Alia Prentiss scored her first goal of the season before Kyla Okamoto converted a late penalty kick to pull the Lumberjacks level.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Fresno Pacific opened the scoring in the fourth minute when Gizelle Aguirre found the back of the net off an assist from Damaris Lopez.

Humboldt responded in the 26th minute. Marissa Volpe set up Prentiss, who finished the opportunity to tie the match at 1-1. The Lumberjacks controlled much of the opening half, outshooting the Sunbirds 8-5 and placing four attempts on target.

The Jacks increased their pressure after halftime, recording the first eight shots of the second period. Sari Murphy nearly gave Humboldt the lead in the 53rd minute, but her attempt struck the crossbar.

Despite Humboldt's pressure, Fresno Pacific reclaimed the advantage in the 69th minute when Julianna Hernandez converted a penalty kick to make it 2-1.

Humboldt continued pushing forward and found its second equalizer in the 84th minute. Okamoto stepped to the spot and converted a penalty kick for her third goal of the season, leveling the match at 2-2.

The Lumberjacks generated another opportunity less than a minute later, but Prentiss' shot was saved.

Humboldt kept Fresno Pacific without a shot following the Sunbirds' second goal and saw out the closing minutes to earn a conference point on the road.

Humboldt dominated the statistical battle, finishing with a 23-6 advantage in shots and a 6-3 edge in shots on goal. The Lumberjacks attempted 15 shots in the second half while limiting Fresno Pacific to one. Humboldt also held a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Prentiss and Hayden Anderson each placed two shots on goal, while Ariana Beddoes played all 90 minutes in net and recorded one save.

The draw moves Humboldt to 6-5-5 overall and 4-3-3 in CCAA play.
