ARCATA, Calif. - The Cal Poly Humboldt men's basketball team has been selected second in the 2026-27 California Collegiate Athletic Association Men's Basketball Preseason Coaches Poll, the conference announced Friday.
The Lumberjacks received 176 points and two first-place votes, finishing only two points behind preseason favorite Cal State San Bernardino. Defending regular-season and tournament champion Cal State East Bay was selected third with 167 points.
Humboldt made the largest move among the conference's leading teams after being picked eighth in last season's preseason poll. The 'Jacks finished 17-15 overall and 13-9 in CCAA play, placing third in the regular-season standings.
The Lumberjacks carried that momentum into the CCAA Tournament, defeating Cal State San Marcos in the quarterfinals before earning an overtime victory over Cal State Dominguez Hills in the semifinals. The run sent Humboldt to the conference championship game, where the 'Jacks fell to Cal State East Bay.
Humboldt's postseason performance helped the Lumberjacks secure the No. 8 seed in the NCAA West Regional and their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2016.
Cal State San Bernardino topped the preseason poll with 178 points and six first-place votes. Humboldt followed with two first-place selections, while Cal State East Bay received four and Cal State Dominguez Hills collected the remaining two.
Only 15 points separated the top four programs, with each receiving multiple first-place votes. Cal State Dominguez Hills finished fourth with 163 points, while Cal Poly Pomona rounded out the top five with 129.
The 2026-27 season will be the first to feature 14 CCAA men's basketball programs following the additions of Menlo and Fresno Pacific. The conference tournament will also expand to seven teams, with the top two seeds advancing directly to the semifinals.
Humboldt will open the regular season Monday, Nov. 9, when it hosts Jessup at 5:30 p.m. inside Lumberjack Arena. The 'Jacks begin CCAA play Thursday, Dec. 3, at Fresno Pacific.
