ARCATA, Calif. - Cal Poly Humboldt women's soccer closed the 2026 season with a 2-1 victory over Chico State on Thursday afternoon at College Creek Field, sending head coach
Grant Landy out with a win in his final match leading the Lumberjacks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Heidie Munoz opened the scoring in the 10th minute, while
Hayden Anderson contributed to both Humboldt goals and delivered the game-winner during the second half.
Munoz nearly gave the Lumberjacks an early advantage when her attempt struck the left post in the ninth minute. She capitalized just over a minute later, scoring off an assist from Anderson to put Humboldt ahead 1-0. The goal was Munoz's third of the season.
The Lumberjacks carried their one-goal advantage into halftime after limiting Chico State to one shot on target during the opening 45 minutes.
The Wildcats equalized in the 50th minute when Makayla Quesada found the back of the net off an assist from Olivia Hohnstein.
Humboldt responded in the 66th minute. Anderson scored her second goal of the season to restore the Lumberjacks' lead at 2-1. The freshman finished the match with three points after assisting on the opening goal and scoring the winner.
The Lumberjacks continued to create opportunities after retaking the lead. Anderson and Munoz each placed another attempt on target, forcing Chico State goalkeeper Charlotte Mailer to make a pair of late saves.
Humboldt's defense protected the advantage over the final 24 minutes.
Ari Beddoes played all 90 minutes in goal and recorded two saves to secure the victory.
Chico State finished with an 11-8 advantage in total shots, but Humboldt placed six attempts on target compared to three for the Wildcats. The Lumberjacks also controlled the corner-kick battle, 9-4.
Humboldt concluded the season with a 7-6-6 overall record and a 5-4-4 mark in CCAA play.
COACH LANDY'S LAST
The victory provided a fitting conclusion to Landy's tenure at Cal Poly Humboldt. Under his leadership, the Lumberjacks qualified for four consecutive CCAA Tournaments and reached new heights in 2025 by capturing the program's first CCAA Tournament championship and advancing to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1996.
