Lumberjacks Seek to Extend Strong Start at Pacific Northwest Invite

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Cal Poly Humboldt men's track & field team will travel north this weekend to compete at the Pacific Northwest Invite, hosted by Oregon State, on Friday, Mar. 20 and Saturday, Mar. 21 in Corvallis, Ore.

The meet provides a mid-season opportunity for the Lumberjacks to build momentum across event groups while continuing to chase qualifying marks and all-time program performances.

Humboldt enters the weekend coming off a strong stretch that included standout indoor and outdoor performances, highlighted by All-American honors, school records, and multiple all-time marks.

LAST TIME OUT

The men's team turned in one of its strongest all-around performances of the outdoor season at the Wildcat Invitational, highlighted by a school record and multiple all-time marks.

Sophomore Michael Payan broke his own school record in the pole vault with a clearance of 5.35m (17'6¾"), earning the event win and an NCAA provisional mark.

On the track, freshman Cameron Bishop posted two all-time top-10 marks, running 10.68 in the 100 meters (fifth all-time) and 21.74 in the 200 meters (10th all-time).

In the throws, Derek Ray captured the shot put title with a mark of 15.72m (51'7"), ranking 10th in program history, while Joseph Gonzalez added a discus victory to highlight Humboldt's strength in the field events.

The men's 4x400 relay team of Bishop, Ryan Giglio, Joey Bowser, and Jamie Saunders also etched their names into the record book, running 3:17.91 to rank ninth all-time.

PACIFIC NORTHWEST INVITE

Humboldt will look to carry its momentum into Corvallis as the squad will continue to build depth and consistency across all event groups.

The sprint group remains a key strength on both sides, with multiple athletes already posting top-10 program marks early in the season. The throws and pole vault groups also provide strong scoring potential, highlighted by Payan's national-level mark.

With a balanced roster across sprints, distance, jumps, and throws, the Lumberjacks will focus on refining technique, improving marks, and continuing to establish themselves within the conference and national landscape.
