SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The Cal Poly Humboldt men's track & field team turned in strong performances from Bryce Pearson and Collin Friedman at the Sam Adams Combined Events, highlighted by top-five finishes and personal bests in the decathlon during the two-day meet hosted by UC Santa Barbara.
Friedman and Pearson led the way for the Humboldt men in the 10-event competition, finishing fourth and fifth overall. Both Friedman and Pearson also hit NCAA DII provisional marks with their scores.
DECATHLON
The Lumberjacks produced several standout performances in the decathlon events.
Friedman delivered one of the meet's top marks in the pole vault, winning the event with a clearance of 4.55m (14-11) to score 775 points. He also recorded a 6.62m (21-8.75) long jump, tying for third in the event and posting a personal best.
Pearson matched Friedman in the long jump with an identical 6.62m (21-8.75) personal best leap and added a strong 1.84m (6-0.50) clearance in the high jump for yet another personal record. Pearson also threw 11.17m (36-7.75) in the shot put and 33.06m (108-5) in the discus.
Friedman added marks of 10.66m (34-11.75) in the shot put and 29.67m (97-4) in the discus before finishing with a 46.53m (152-8) throw in the javelin.
Pearson opened the decathlon with a strong performance in the 100 meters, running 11.32 to place third overall in the event. Friedman followed closely with a time of 11.33.
Pearson continued his strong showing on the track with a 15.58 finish in the 110-meter hurdles, the second-fastest time in the field. He also ran 51.66 in the 400 meters and finished the competition with a 4:49.60 performance in the 1500 meters.
Friedman added times of 53.34 in the 400 meters (PR) and 16.21 in the 110 hurdles, before closing the decathlon with a 4:47.72 effort in the 1500 meters.
At the conclusion of the 10-event competition, Friedman totaled 6,402 points to finish fourth overall (7th all-time mark in program history), while Pearson followed in fifth place with 6,351 points.

Cal Poly Humboldt will return to action Saturday at the Kim Duyst Invitational in Turlock, Calif., as the Lumberjacks continue building momentum early in the outdoor season.
