VANCOUVER, Wash. – Cal Poly Humboldt women's rowing delivered an impressive all-around performance at the Northwest Collegiate Rowing Championships, highlighted by a first-place finish in the Varsity 8+ and multiple strong races across the day's regatta.
The Lumberjacks opened the morning with a statement victory in the Women's Varsity 8+ race. Humboldt's Varsity 8+ crew powered through the course in 7:08.03, finishing more than 11 seconds ahead of runner-up Central Oklahoma (7:19.78) to claim the top spot.
In the Women's Varsity 4+ (DI/DII/C), Humboldt showcased its depth with two entries placing third and fourth. The 'Jacks' top boat crossed the line in 8:07.31, narrowly edging their second entry, which finished in 8:09.36, as both crews battled closely with Oregon and Central Oklahoma in a tightly contested race.
Humboldt continued its strong showing in the Women's Novice 4+, earning a runner-up finish. The Lumberjacks posted a time of 8:36.45, finishing second to Puget Sound.
Later in the day, Humboldt added another top result (DII) in the Women's (mostly) Novice 8+, taking second place with a time of 7:36.64, just behind Oregon (7:31.10).
The regatta concluded with the Women's 2- event, where Humboldt demonstrated impressive depth by placing four crews in the top five. The Lumberjacks claimed second through fifth places, led by their top pair finishing in 8:32.40, followed closely by times of 8:33.96, 8:35.53, and 8:41.58.
Head Coach Matt Weise praised the team's progress and performance throughout the day.
"It was a great day overall—our Varsity 8+ getting the win over Central Oklahoma was a big highlight, and both of our 4s raced well and stayed competitive. We're not quite at our peak yet, which is encouraging, but we're continuing to learn how to handle the race course, push our pace, and stay in rhythm. The pairs racing was also a lot of fun and really competitive within our group. It was just an unbelievable day for racing, too—clear skies, no wind, and views of Mount Hood and Mount St. Helens."
Overall, Cal Poly Humboldt's performance underscored the program's strength across multiple boat classes, combining a marquee Varsity 8+ victory with consistent top finishes and depth throughout the lineup.
