ARCATA, Calif. - Cal Poly Humboldt women's soccer delivered a dominant performance Saturday afternoon, shutting out Simpson University 5-0 at College Creek Field. Aliyah Huynh recorded two goals in the second-half as the Lumberjacks' offense powered Humboldt to a convincing preseason victory.
Humboldt wasted no time setting the tone, controlling possession and creating pressure in the attacking third. The Lumberjacks opened the scoring in the 11th minute on an own goal by Simpson from a well-put corner kick from
Nicole Beauchemin, giving Humboldt an early 1-0 advantage.
The Lumberjacks continued to apply pressure and doubled their lead in the 25th minute when
Alia Prentiss found the back of the net for her first goal of the afternoon.
Julia Martin provided the assist as Humboldt took a 2-0 lead.
In the 36th minute, Humboldt added another goal when
Isis-Jade Bryant scored to push the Lumberjacks' advantage to 3-0 as Humboldt carried the three-goal lead into halftime.
Huynh began her impressive afternoon after the break, scoring twice in the final 20 minutes. Her first goal came in the 73rd minute off an assist from
Hayden Anderson, extending Humboldt's lead to 4-0. Just five minutes later, Huynh scored once again when she found the back of the net off a pass from
Isis-Jade Bryant to cap the scoring at 5-0.
The Lumberjacks dominated the statistical battle, outshooting Simpson 19-4 and putting 12 shots on target compared to just one for the visitors. Humboldt also held an 11-2 advantage in corner kicks and controlled 56 percent of possession.
Humboldt's defense posted a clean sheet, limiting Simpson to just one shot on goal.
Ari Beddoes and
Adea Nunes spilt the 90 minutes in goal for the Lumberjacks in preserving the shutout. The victory gives Humboldt a strong finish to its preseason schedule as the Lumberjacks prepare for the start of the regular season.

The Lumberjacks will prepare for their last two preseason matches next week as they face Southern Oregon on Aug. 20 and Oregon Tech on Aug. 22.
