ARCATA, Calif. - Cal Poly Humboldt women's soccer opened the 2026 regular season with a 1-0 victory over Central Washington Thursday afternoon at College Creek Field in the Humboldt Kickoff Classic.
Sari Murphy scored the lone goal of the match early in the second half as the Lumberjacks began the regular season with a win.
After a scoreless opening half, Humboldt continued to apply pressure and broke through just 1:09 into the second half.
Sari Murphy found the back of the net off an assist from
Heidie Munoz, giving the Lumberjacks a 1-0 advantage in the 47th minute.
Humboldt continued to create opportunities throughout the second half, putting ten shots up after halftime while holding Central Washington to just five total shots in the final 45 minutes. The Lumberjacks finished with 11 shots overall, including seven on target, while the Wildcats recorded seven shots with just one on goal.
The Lumberjacks' defense held strong to preserve the shutout, limiting Central Washington to one shot on goal throughout the 90 minutes.
Ari Beddoes started in goal and played the opening 45 minutes before
Adea Nunes took over for the second half. Nunes made one save to help Humboldt secure the clean sheet.
Humboldt's defense and goalkeeping kept Central Washington off the scoreboard as the Lumberjacks earned their first regular-season victory of 2026. The win also marks Humboldt's fourth consecutive shutout dating back to preseason.
The Lumberjacks will look to carry the momentum from their season-opening victory into their second match of the Humboldt Kickoff Classic.

The Lumberjacks will return to College Creek Field Saturday, Aug. 29, when they face Concordia University Irvine at 11:30 a.m. PT to close out their final game of the Humboldt Kickoff Classic.
