Lumberjacks Defeat Colorado Christian for First Win of 2026 Season

GOLDEN, Colo. - Cal Poly Humboldt Volleyball earned its first victory of the 2026 season Friday afternoon, defeating Colorado Christian 3-1 at the Oredigger Volleyball Classic inside Lockridge Arena. The Lumberjacks won by set scores of 25-18, 19-25, 25-15 and 25-21.

Colorado Christian opened the match with four consecutive points, but Humboldt quickly responded to even the first set at 4-4. The teams remained close until the Lumberjacks broke a 15-15 tie with three straight points. Humboldt then scored seven of the final eight points, with Isabella Hartwig delivering the set-winning kill for a 25-18 victory.

The Cougars answered in the second set. Humboldt pulled within one at 17-16 before Colorado Christian used a 7-0 run to reach set point. The Lumberjacks fought off three set points, but the Cougars closed the frame with a 25-19 win to even the match.

Humboldt regained control in the third set behind a dominant run from the service line. Leading 10-6, the Lumberjacks scored 10 consecutive points with Hartwig serving, a stretch that included two aces and four blocks involving Phoebe Bland. Humboldt held Colorado Christian to a negative hitting percentage in the set and earned a 25-15 victory.

The Lumberjacks again overcame an early 4-0 deficit in the fourth set, scoring five straight points to tie the frame at 5-5. Humboldt took its first lead at 7-6 on a block from Avary Spoja and Hartwig and never trailed again. The Lumberjacks extended their advantage to 24-18 before Colorado Christian fought off three match points. Graysen Trupp ended the comeback attempt with her 14th kill of the match, securing the 25-21 win.

Trupp led Humboldt's attack with 14 kills and added two block assists. Branson Lennon contributed seven kills, 13 digs, three service aces and three block assists, while Hartwig and Emma Fauth each finished with seven kills.

Bland led a dominant effort at the net with 10 block assists to go along with five kills. Spoja added five kills, one solo block and four block assists as the Lumberjacks recorded 14 total blocks compared to five for the Cougars.

Elizabeth Jade Andrade anchored Humboldt's back row with a team-high 20 digs and four service aces. Brielle Wilson finished with 24 assists and eight digs, while Claire Crawford added 14 assists and six digs.

Humboldt held advantages in kills (48-44), hitting percentage (.191-.121), service aces (10-6), digs (62-60) and blocks (14-5). The Lumberjacks limited Colorado Christian to a -.031 hitting percentage in the third set.
The victory moves Humboldt to 1-1 on the season.

The Lumberjacks conclude the Oredigger Volleyball Classic Saturday, Aug. 29, against UCCS. First serve is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Pacific time inside Lockridge Arena.
