Jacks Sweep Chico State to Complete Perfect CCAA Opening Weekend

ARCATA, Calif. - Cal Poly Humboldt volleyball completed a perfect opening weekend of conference play with a straight-set victory over Chico State on Saturday afternoon inside Lumberjack Arena. The Lumberjacks defeated the Wildcats by set scores of 25-22, 25-21 and 25-18.

Humboldt improved to 5-3 overall and 2-0 in CCAA play after following Thursday's five-set victory over Stanislaus State with Saturday's sweep.

The Lumberjacks built an eight-point advantage during the opening set before Chico State battled back to tie the frame at 19-19. Humboldt responded by winning six of the final nine rallies, with a Wildcat attack error closing out the 25-22 victory.

Chico State raced out to an early lead in the second set, but Humboldt erased a four-point deficit and pulled even at 7-7. The teams remained close until the Lumberjacks scored four of the final five points to secure a 25-21 win and take a two-set advantage.

The Wildcats again held an early lead in the third before Humboldt fought back. With the score tied at 18-18, the Lumberjacks closed the match on a 7-0 run. Tatyana Jennings delivered a kill during the decisive stretch, while Claire Crawford added a service ace before a Chico State attack error completed the sweep.

Graysen Trupp led Humboldt with 10 kills and five total blocks. Branson Lennon recorded nine kills, 15 digs and a service ace, while Avary Spoja added nine kills on a .368 hitting percentage.

Kendall Fenstermacher contributed six kills, 10 digs and two service aces. Elizabeth Jade Andrade anchored the defense with 13 digs and five assists.

Brielle Wilson directed the offense with 17 assists, while Crawford finished with 13 assists and two aces.

Humboldt hit .208 as a team and held Chico State to a .080 hitting percentage. The Lumberjacks also finished with 55 digs, eight blocks and five service aces.

UP NEXT

The Lumberjacks will begin a two-match road trip Friday, Sept. 18, when they face Cal State Monterey Bay at 5 p.m. in Seaside. Humboldt will then travel to Atherton to face Menlo on Saturday, Sept. 19, at 5 p.m.
