SAN RAFAEL, Calif. - Cal Poly Humboldt women's soccer conceded the match's lone goal shortly after halftime and fell 1-0 to Dominican Saturday afternoon at Kennelly Field.
The Lumberjacks withstood sustained pressure from the Penguins during a scoreless opening half. Dominican attempted nine shots over the first 45 minutes, but goalkeeper
Ari Beddoes made two saves to keep the match level heading into the break.
Dominican broke through just 94 seconds into the second half. Kiana Ayllon carried the ball down the left side and found Janae Schwan near the six-yard box, where Schwan lifted the finish into the net to give the Penguins a 1-0 lead.
Humboldt pushed forward in search of an equalizer and produced three second-half shots.
Sloane Jockin and
Lucy Al-Chokhachy each recorded attempts during the final minutes, but the Lumberjacks were unable to place a shot on target.
Dominican finished with a 15-4 advantage in shots and put six attempts on goal. Al-Chokhachy led Humboldt with two shots, while
Sari Murphy and Jockin added one apiece.
Beddoes finished with five saves, including three in the second half, to keep the Lumberjacks within one goal throughout the match.
The result moves Humboldt to 2-2-2 as the Lumberjacks complete their non-conference schedule.
UP NEXT
Humboldt will return home to open CCAA play Friday, Sept. 18, against Menlo. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. at College Creek Field.
