Humboldt Begins Conference Play With Home Opener Against Oaks, Youth Day Against Pioneers

ARCATA, Calif. - The Cal Poly Humboldt men's soccer team will make its long-awaited conference home debut this week when the Lumberjacks open CCAA play against Menlo on Friday, Sept. 18, at noon at College Creek Field. Humboldt will remain home to face Cal State East Bay on Sunday, Sept. 20, at 11 a.m. as part of Youth Day.

The matches begin a stretch in which the Lumberjacks will play four of their next six contests in Arcata.

LAST TIME OUT

Humboldt concluded its season-opening road stretch with a 2-2 draw at Saint Martin's on Saturday.

The Lumberjacks overcame an early deficit when Dominic Calero scored his first goal of the season in the 29th minute off assists from Edwin Monterrosa and Shota Lam.

Seth Uson gave Humboldt a 2-1 advantage in the 77th minute, finishing a sequence created by Lam and Izaiah Grosveld. Saint Martin's responded with the tying goal in the 86th minute.

Monterrosa recorded five saves in addition to his assist, while Lam finished with two assists. Humboldt generated 11 shots and put four attempts on target.

The draw moved the Lumberjacks to 1-2-3 through six non-conference matches.

CCAA HOME OPENER

Friday's match will be Humboldt's home and CCAA opener.

Menlo earned victories over Colorado School of Mines and Jessup during its first five matches. The Oaks' most recent completed contest was a 3-0 road victory over Jessup on Sept. 10.

The Lumberjacks are already familiar with Menlo's Wunderlich Field after playing three neutral-site matches in Atherton to begin the season, but Friday will mark the first meeting between Humboldt and the Oaks in 2026.

YOUTH DAY AND EAST BAY

The Lumberjacks will return to College Creek Field Sunday morning to face Cal State East Bay.

The Pioneers enter the week with an 0-5-1 record. East Bay opened the season with losses to Midwestern State and UT Dallas before earning a 2-2 draw against Dominican. The Pioneers have scored twice in each of their last two matches, falling 3-2 to Westmont and Vanguard.

Cal State East Bay will face Chico State on Friday before traveling to Arcata for Sunday's match.
