SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. -
Izaiah Grosveld scored for the third consecutive match, but Cal Poly Humboldt men's soccer fell 3-1 to Cal State San Bernardino in CCAA action Friday afternoon at Premier Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Coyotes opened the scoring in the 30th minute when Aaron Sullivan found the back of the net off an assist from Diego Lopez. Humboldt goalkeeper
Benjamin McDonald kept the Lumberjacks within one by recording six saves during the opening half.
Cal State San Bernardino carried its 1-0 advantage into halftime and added two goals seven seconds apart in the 74th minute. Nevin Rueegger scored off assists from Titus Alviso and Ty Kerns before Brandon Prince extended the margin to 3-0.
Humboldt responded in the 79th minute when Grosveld scored an unassisted goal to cut the deficit to 3-1. The reigning FloCollege/CCAA Offensive Player of the Week has now scored four goals across the Lumberjacks' past three matches.
Grosveld led Humboldt with two shots, placing both attempts on target.
Jai Sternhall also recorded a shot on goal, while
Elijah Hanley added an attempt.
Cal State San Bernardino finished with a 26 shots and placed 12 attempts on target. The Lumberjacks generated all four of their shots during the second half.
McDonald played the opening 45 minutes and made six saves while allowing one goal.
Edwin Monterrosa played the second half and recorded two saves.
The result moved Humboldt to 2-4-3 overall and 1-2 in CCAA play.

The Lumberjacks will conclude their Southern California road trip Sunday, Sept. 27, against Cal State Dominguez Hills. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson.
