SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - Cal Poly Humboldt women's soccer underwent its first conference loss of the season Friday afternoon, falling 2-0 to Cal State San Bernardino at Premier Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lumberjacks kept the match scoreless for most of the opening half before the Coyotes broke through in the 41st minute. Valerie Garcia scored off an assist from Angelyn Pena to give Cal State San Bernardino a 1-0 advantage heading into halftime.
The Coyotes added to their lead less than five minutes after the break. Marianne Tarin found the back of the net in the 50th minute off an assist from Unieque Solis-Marquina, extending the margin to 2-0.
Humboldt generated five of its eight shots during the second half as it searched for a response.
Aliyah Huynh produced two attempts, including one on target, while
Charlotte Alvarez also recorded two shots and placed one on frame.
Hayden Anderson accounted for Humboldt's third shot on goal.
Sari Murphy,
Lucy Al-Chokhachy and
Sloane Jockin each added an attempt.
Cal State San Bernardino finished with an 18-8 advantage in shots and placed six attempts on target compared to three for Humboldt.
Ari Beddoes played all 90 minutes in goal and recorded four saves, making three during the opening half.
The result moved the Lumberjacks to 4-3-2 overall and 2-1 in CCAA play.
UP NEXT
Humboldt will conclude its Southern California road trip Sunday, Sept. 27, against Cal State Dominguez Hills. Kickoff is scheduled for 11 a.m. at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson.
