CARSON, Calif. -
Sari Murphy scored the game-winning goal in the 86th minute as Cal Poly Humboldt women's soccer defeated Cal State Dominguez Hills 1-0 Sunday afternoon at Dignity Health Sports Park.
The victory improved Humboldt to 5-3-2 overall and 3-1 in CCAA play.
The two teams played through a scoreless opening half despite combining for 11 shots. Cal State Dominguez Hills placed two of its seven first-half attempts on frame, but Beddoes stopped both to keep the match level.
Humboldt increased its pressure after halftime, producing eight shots while holding the Toros to four.
Heidie Munoz and
Lucy Al-Chokhachy each placed attempts on target during the opening 12 minutes of the period, but both were saved.
The breakthrough arrived at the 85:13 mark. Murphy found the back of the net with an unassisted strike, giving the Lumberjacks the late 1-0 advantage. The goal was Murphy's only shot of the match and stood as the game-winner.
Humboldt's defense protected the lead through the closing minutes to complete its second shutout victory in its past three matches. Beddoes made three saves across 90 minutes to earn the win and clean sheet.
The Lumberjacks finished with a 12-11 advantage in shots, placed four attempts on goal and held a 4-1 edge in corner kicks. Al-Chokhachy,
Alia Prentiss and Munoz joined Murphy with shots on target.
Sunday's victory closed Humboldt's road trip and marked the Lumberjacks' third conference win through their first four CCAA matches.
UP NEXT
The Lumberjacks will return to College Creek Field on Friday, Oct. 2, to host Cal State Los Angeles at noon. Humboldt will then face Cal Poly Pomona at home Sunday, Oct. 4, at 11 a.m.
