Jacks Ignite Lumberjack Arena with Sweep Against Dominican

ARCATA, Calif. - Cal Poly Humboldt women's volleyball earned its first home victory of the season Friday evening, sweeping Dominican in the second match of the Redwood Coast Volleyball Classic inside Lumberjack Arena. The Lumberjacks won by set scores of 25-22, 29-27 and 25-18.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Dominican built a 20-18 advantage late in the opening set before Humboldt responded with five consecutive points to move ahead 23-20. The Penguins pulled within one, but a Dominican error and a service ace from Kendall Fenstermacher secured the 25-22 victory.

The second set developed into a back-and-forth battle featuring 15 ties. Humboldt fought off two Dominican set points before taking a 28-27 lead on an attack error. Avary Spoja followed with a kill off an assist from Claire Crawford to give the Lumberjacks a 29-27 win and a two-set advantage.

Humboldt completed the sweep with its strongest offensive performance of the match. Trailing 15-11 in the third set, the Lumberjacks produced a 10-1 run behind Fenstermacher's serving to take a 21-16 lead. Humboldt closed the match with Crawford delivering an ace on match point.

Isabella Hartwig led the Lumberjacks with 10 kills while hitting .350. She also recorded seven digs and three block assists. Fenstermacher finished with eight kills, six digs, two aces and a block assist, while Graysen Trupp added seven kills.

Crawford directed the offense with 26 assists while contributing seven digs, two aces and two block assists. Elizabeth Jade Andrade anchored the defense with 17 digs and matched a career high with three service aces.
Humboldt finished with 35 kills, 58 digs, eight service aces and four total blocks. The Lumberjacks committed only one attacking error in the third set and hit .378 during the decisive frame.
The victory improved Humboldt to 3-2 on the season, while Dominican moved to 2-5.

UP NEXT

The Lumberjacks will conclude the Redwood Coast Volleyball Classic on Saturday, Sept. 5, when they host Jessup at 3 p.m. inside Lumberjack Arena to wrap up the tournament.
