MONMOUTH, Ore. - Cal Poly Humboldt men's soccer continues non-conference play with two road matches in the Pacific Northwest this week.
Humboldt will face Western Oregon on Thursday, Sept. 10, at noon at WOU Soccer Field in Monmouth, Oregon. The Lumberjacks will then travel to Lacey, Washington, to meet Saint Martin's on Saturday, Sept. 12, at 11 a.m. at Saints Field.
The trip will conclude a stretch of six consecutive matches away from Arcata to begin the regular season.
LAST TIME OUT
Humboldt enters the week with a 1-2-1 record after playing Northwest Nazarene and Jessup.
The Lumberjacks battled Northwest Nazarene to a 2-2 draw Thursday in Atherton. After falling behind twice, Humboldt answered with second-half goals from
Shota Lam and
Dominik Chipp. Lam scored on a free kick in the 54th minute before Chipp found the equalizer off an assist from
Jai Sternhall in the 85th minute.
Humboldt controlled much of the attack against the Nighthawks, finishing with a 20-11 advantage in shots and placing 10 attempts on target.
The Lumberjacks then fell 2-1 at Jessup on Saturday. After the Warriors scored on each side of halftime, Chipp cut the deficit in half with his second goal in as many matches.
De Jon Watson assisted the goal in the 65th minute.
Humboldt outshot Jessup 14-8, including a 10-4 advantage in the second half, but was unable to complete the comeback.
WRESTLING WITH THE WOLVES
Humboldt will open the trip Thursday at noon against Western Oregon.
The Wolves enter the week with a 1-1-2 record after playing four matches away from home. Western Oregon opened the season with a 3-2 victory over MSU Denver before drawing Westminster 3-3. The Wolves then fell 2-1 to Cal Poly Pomona and played Cal State Dominguez Hills to a 2-2 draw.
Western Oregon has scored nine goals through four matches, with each of its contests featuring at least three combined goals.
Thursday's match will be the Wolves' home opener and the first of two contests in three days at WOU Soccer Field.
SATURDAY WITH THE SAINTS
The Lumberjacks will conclude their trip Saturday at 11 a.m. against Saint Martin's at Saints Field.
The Saints enter the week with a 2-2 record. Saint Martin's opened the season with consecutive shutout victories, defeating Walla Walla 5-0 and Westmont 1-0. The Saints then dropped road matches against Stanislaus State and Chico State.
Saint Martin's will host Chaminade on Thursday before welcoming Humboldt on Saturday.
The Lumberjacks defeated the Saints 2-0 last season in Monmouth, Ore.
Erwin Manibusan Jr. and
Nathan Murff scored for Humboldt, while
Edwin Monterrosa made five saves to secure the shutout.

The Lumberjacks will return to Arcata for their home and CCAA opener against Menlo on Friday, Sept. 18, at noon at College Creek Field. Humboldt will remain home to face Cal State East Bay on Sunday, Sept. 20, at 11 a.m. for Youth Day.
