ARCATA – Andrew Bailey's hat trick led the way for No. 16 nationally ranked Sonoma State as the Seawolves defeated Humboldt State 5-0 in California Collegiate Athletic Association men's soccer action Sunday.

With the loss, the Jacks fall to 7-5-4 overall and 2-5-3 in the CCAA while the North Division leading Seawolves improve to 12-2-2 overall and 7-2-1 in the CCAA.

“It was easy to see our youth today against a very experienced team,” said Humboldt State head men's soccer coach Andy Cumbo. “(Sonoma State) has a lot of guys running free and that allows them to create a lot opportunities and we also gave them opportunities today. You just can't do that against them.”

Sonoma State opened the scoring 20 minutes into the game when Bailey headed the ball past HSU goalkeeper Drew Ryan off of a pass from Nathan Medina.

“We gave them some chances in the first half, but other than their goal, they didn't finish them,” said Cumbo.

Bailey doubled the Seawolves' lead three minutes into the second half after receiving a through ball from Ross Middlemiss. Jack Jones also got credit for an assist.

The senior forward capped off his day 13 minutes later on a one-timer off of a Eric Lafon free kick.

“(Bailey) is a very good and technical player,” said Cumbo. “He got his chances today and he punished us.”

Sonoma State found the back of the net two more times in the final 15 minutes on goals by Mark Wiedemen and Taylor Jones.

The Jacks will look to get back in the win column when they begin their final roadtrip of the season in Sn Francisco. Kickoff against SF State is scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
