Lumberjacks rally to claim OT win over UAA

ANAHEIM — Elliot Babcock-Krenk came off the bench to hit three three-pointers, lifting Humboldt State to a 83-81 overtime win over Alaska Anchorage at the Disney West Coast Tipoff Classic on Sunday.

In the final three minutes of regulation, Babcock-Krenk twice gave the Lumberjacks a one-point lead with long-range shots, but the Seawolves managed to couner, taking a two-point advantage of their own when Casey Robinson drained a three-pointer with seven seconds remaining. Humboldt State's Ernie Spada missed a potential game-winning three, but Zac Tiedeman tipped the ball back up into the basket to force overtime.

Babcock-Krenk nailed two more threes to start the overtime, and Colt Mathews and Tiedeman hit critical free throws down the stretch. UAA's Kevin White drove for the potential tying basket, but Babcock-Krenk, a freshman out of Lake Oswego, Ore., blocked the shot to end the contest.

Four Lumberjacks reached double-digits in the scoring column, led by 12 points from Kyle Baxter and David Howard. Tiedeman and Babcock-Krenk each scored 11 for the Jacks, and Jameson Figgatt added nine points and nine rebounds.

Casey Robinson led all scorers with 22 points, and White had 20 for the Seawolves. Jeremiah Trueman scored 16 oints and Brandon Walker scored 12 for last year's West Region champions.

Again, the Lumberjacks dug themselves a hole they had trouble finding their way out of. By halftime, HSU trailed 41-30, the Seawolves taking advantage of the Jacks' defense to shoot 56 percent from the field.

Humboldt State pulled within five twice early in the second half, Jameson Figgatt converting on the interior on two straight possessions. They trimmed the lead further, trailing 45-42 following two free throws by Kyle Baxter.

The Jacks finally took their first lead of the game at 61-60 on a pair of Tiedeman free throws.

Humboldt State takes a nine-day break from competition before hosting Southern Oregon on Nov. 18 in its home debut in Lumberjack Arena.
