SAN BERNARDINO — No. 2 nationally ranked Cal State San Bernardino kept its unbeaten season intact with a 25-15, 25-15, 25-19 volleyball victory over Humboldt State on Friday.

Taking on a formidable opponent, the Jacks battled throughout, finishing the match with a strong final set that saw them trailing by a single point before the Coyotes pulled away. Once again showcasing sturdy defense, the Lumberjacks put up seven team blocks on the evening, led by two solos and four block assists from Danielle Wells.

"We actually played good defense, and our block wasn't bad," HSU head coach Sue Woodstra said. "They just had too much for us."

The loss dropped Humboldt State fell to 6-8 overall and 2-4 in California Collegiate Athletic Association action. With its 19th consecutive home win over the past two seasons, Cal State San Bernardino stretched its record to 13-0 overall and 6-0 in league.

Morgan Carty was the big weapon for the Coyotes, putting down a match-high 13 kills with only a single error. Camille Smith had 10 digs for CSUSB.

HSU was led by Allison Drobish and Oceana Matsubu with five kills each. Emily Nuss had a match-high 17 digs.

"We competed and stood toe-to-toe, and won the tiny battles," Woodstra said. "They certainly won the war."

Humboldt State is back on the court Saturday, facing Cal Poly Pomona at 7 p.m. in another CCAA encounter.
