Jacks drop tough decision to CSUSB

SAN BERNARDINO — Bryan LeDuc and Lawrence Tyson hit big 3-pointers in the final two minutes, helping Cal State San Bernardino escape with a 71-66 win over Humboldt State in California Collegiate Athletic Association men's basketball action Friday.

LeDuc finished with 13 points, tying teammate David Jefferson for team-high honors. The senior transfer's biggest shots were the 3-pointer that broke a 61-61 tie with 1 minute, 58 seconds remaining, and a pair of free throws that sealed the win with 17 seconds left.

Humboldt State dropped to 8-4 overall and 5-2 in the CCAA despite a team-high 17 points from Zac Tiedeman. Elliot Babcock-Krenk finished with 11 points, including the first eight of the game, and Brian Morris had 10 points and seven rebounds for HSU.

Also scoring in double figures for CSU San Bernardino were Aaron Hill and Tyson with 11 points each. The Coyotes improved to 6-3 overall and are now 4-1 in league games.

Neither team shot well in the first half, but the Jacks managed a 28-26 lead at the break behind the three-point shooting of Babcock-Krenk and Will Petty, who hit all three of his 3-point attempts in the opening period.

Humboldt State forged its largest lead of the game early in the opening period when Petty's 3-pointer moved the Jacks up, 14-7. The Coyotes' greatest advantage of the game was its final margin of victory, five points.

The Lumberjacks are back in action Saturday, taking on Cal Poly Pomona at 7:30 p.m. in another CCAA contest.
