Head-to-Head
Humboldt State's record against UC San Diego is 0-8-1.   Last season the Tritons defeated the Jacks 3-1 in La Jolla.  This will be just the second time UCSD has traveled to Arcata.  The previous meeting was a 2-0 Triton victory in 2007. … Against Cal State East Bay, the Lumberjacks lead the all-time series 6-1-1.  The Jacks lost to the Pioneers 2-1 last year in Hayward.   It was the first meeting since 1998 when the schools tied 0-0.  From 1995 to 1997, as members of the NCAC, the Lumberjacks beat CSUEB, then Cal State Hayward, six straight times.

Johnson's Comments
“We saw improvement last weekend.  But it has been a bit disappointing to walk away with three losses in the last three games.  Especially after we had, what I consider, the better run of play.  Unfortunately, we gave up some very soft goals in those games, which has been a problem in all of our contests this year.  That combined with not getting the types of shots that we need in order to score has placed us in this situation.” … “We have injury and confidence issues right now.  Someone needs to step up and show and prove that they can be a goal scorer and lead this team from the offensive standpoint.” …  “Between the boxes I have been very happy with our play.  I feel that we are moving the ball nicely and playing beautiful soccer. But we have to clean up the two 18-yard boxes.” … “UCSD is nationally ranked and didn't graduate anybody from last year.  They will be very difficult to handle.” … “Sunday (against Cal State East Bay) is a winnable game.  They beat us on a fluke play last year, but we didn't show up for that game. We have to win this game.  The North (Division of the CCAA) is very winnable. We have to win the games against teams like (CSU) East Bay.”

Lumberjack Notes
HSU is 0-4-0 overall and 0-2-0 in CCAA play  - tied for fifth in the North Division. … Humboldt State is still looking for its first goal of the year.  The shot leaders are senior's Kim Carroll and Arielle Kern with seven each.  Junior Sarah Nakamoto and freshman Talya Crosby have four shots apiece. … Senior keeper Kelly Sandberg is 0-3-0 while playing all 308 minutes.  She has made 17 saves on 23 shots and has a goals against average (gaa) is 1.75.  Sophomore Jennie Paugh has played 51 minutes and allowed one goal.  Her record is 0-1-0.

Opponents Notes
The UC San Diego Tritons (3-1-0, 1-1-0 CCAA – T4th place South Division) opened conference play last weekend with 1-3 loss to No. 23 Cal State Los Angeles, but came back on Sunday and downed No. 9 Cal State Dominguez Hills 3-0.  Annette Ilg leads the Tritons with three goals.  Lisa Bradley, Gabi Hernandez and Alyssa Newcomer have two goals each.  Kristin Armstrong has played the majority of minutes in goal for UCSD.   Her gaa is 0.82 after making eight saves on 11 shots. UC San Diego is led by Brian McManus who is in his 24th season.  His record in La Jolla is 385-58-31. … Cal State East Bay (2-2-1, 0-2-0 CCAA - 6th place South Division) lost 0-2 to No. 9 Cal State Dominguez and 0-6 to No. 23 Cal State Los Angeles last week.  Shianna Falk has three goals for the Pioneers.  Ariana Nobrega had netted two goals.  Nina Cefalo started both matches last week and allowed eight goals on 16 shots.  Her gaa is 4.00.  Amy Gerace, in her 10th season, leads the Pioneers.
