TURLOCK — A quick start wasn't enough to earn Humboldt State a volleyball victory Saturday, leaving the Jacks winless on the season and in the California Collegiate Athletic Association after a 25-23, 19-25, 13-25, 14-25 loss to Cal State Stanislaus.
Humboldt State dropped to 0-8 overall and 0-4 in CCAA action while the host Warriors improved to 5-4 and 2-2 in league.
Toni Kroeker,
Oceana Matsubu and
Taylor Manuel helped the Lumberjacks build an early lead in the opening set before a Warrior attack error ended it in favor of the Jacks. HSU also battled through a tight second set before finishing on the negative side with an attack error of its own ending the set.
Cal State Stanislaus took advantage of the Jacks' missing offense in the third and fourth sets, pulling away to comfortable wins. The match was the second straight in which the Jacks were unable to generate a positive hitting percentage, finishing at exactly .000 for the evening.
Kroeker paced HSU's defensive with five blocks, including two solos. Leading the Lumberjacks in digs were
Brooke Ferguson, with 13, and Manuel, with 10.
HSU makes its home debut this week, taking on Cal State San Bernardino on Friday and Cal Poly Pomona on Saturday in Lumberjack Arena.
