ARCATA — Continuing its string of home games, Humboldt State plays a pair of California Collegiate Athletic Association contests this week in Lumberjack Arena. Cal State Monterey Bay (4-8, 2-6 CCAA) offers the opposition on Thursday and San Francisco State (7-5, 5-3 CCAA) plays the Jacks on Saturday. Both games are scheduled to tip off at 7:30 p.m., or 20 minutes after the women's game if it finishes later than 7:10.

Every Lumberjack basketball game is broadcast live over the local airways on KATA, 1340 AM, beginning with the pregame show 15 minutes prior to game time. Bicoastal Media Sports Director J.B. Mathers describes the action from Lumberjack Arena and HSU Assistant Athletic Director Dan Pambianco goes on the road with the Jacks. …Audio and video are also streamed live over the Internet through the hsujacks.com web site. Head-to-Head
Two wins in 2009-10 kept the Lumberjacks a perfect 13-0 against Cal State Monterey Bay in the all-time series. Last year's home game in Lumberjack Arena was televised nationwide on CBS College Sports. …One of its longest standing rivalries, Humboldt State has played San Francisco State since 1931, the first season of basketball at HSU. The Jacks have claimed 58 wins while the Gators have earned 90.
Head Coach Steve Kinder
The "Kinder Era" at HSU is off to an 11-1 start, including a 7-1 record in the CCAA. After serving as the Jacks' No. 1 assistant for the past 20 seasons, Kinder took over for his mentor, Tom Wood, in 2010-11. As an assistant, he played critical roles in recruiting and coaching while helping the Jacks' 217-77 record achieved during the past decade. Kinder is a former HSU basketball player who was a member of the 1984-85 NCAC championship team. He previously served as a graduate assistant coach for the Lumberjacks (1986-88).

Humboldt State will send 11 players into battle this week after Emmett Duvall left the program. Tyler Brown, a 6-2 junior guard, has been activated from redshirt status to take Duvall's place on the roster. …A decision has been made to redshirt two other Lumberjack players who have out of action. Matt Lipski, who has yet to play a game, will save a season by waiting until next year, and Marcus Hall who was injured in the first game this year, will seek a medical redshirt. …file://localhost/about/blankBrian Morris was named the California Collegiate Athletic Association's (CCAA) men's basketball Player of the Week, it was announced on Monday. Morris, a senior from Portland, Ore., led the Lumberjacks to a pair of home wins over Cal State San Bernardino and Cal Poly Pomona that helped Humboldt State maintain a share of first place in the CCAA. He averaged 20.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.5 steals while connecting on 60.7 percent (17-of-28) of his field goal attempts. "Brian contributed two very good, unselfish performances that helped us win," head coach Steve Kinder said. "He's all about winning, and will sacrifice individually to help the team." …A combined effort brought the Jacks the pair of victories last week, and more of the same will be needed to produce similar results this week. "Brandon Sperling is doing a great job of trusting his teammates, something that was obvious in his total assists (15)," Kinder said. "Ernie Spada is giving us phenomenal leadership on the court. And Elliot Babcock-Krenk has been a solid defender who often has to stop the other team's best scorer." …This week's game's will showcase five of the top six scorers in the CCAA. Cal State Monterey Bay's Davion Berry leads the league with an average of 17.7 points per game, and Humboldt State's Brian Morris is second (16.7). Next is San Francisco State's Nefi Perdomo (16.1), and Humboldt State's Randy Hunter (15.3) and Brandon Sperling (14.8) are fifth and sixth.

Cal State Monterey Bay lost both of its games last weekend, falling to Cal State L.A. and Cal State Dominguez Hills at home in Seaside. Both games were tightly contested, CSUMB falling to CSLA, 69-62, and losing to CSUDH, 79-70. The Otters have now lost six straight after a 4-2 start. …Sophomore guard Davion Barry leads the Otters in scoring, averaging 17.7 points per game. Guard Brandon Ward is averaging 9.5 points per game and senior Daroll Phillips is scoring 8.0 points per outing. …San Francisco State lost two games last weekend, falling to Cal State Dominguez Hills, 73-55, and losing to Cal State Dominguez Hills, 85-80. …Leading the Gators in scoring is sophomore guard Nefi Perdomo, who puts up 16.1 points per game. Senior Marquel Hoskins is averaging 10.8 points per game and leads his team with 5.7 rebounds per game. …Seeing a significant amount of playing time is senior Josh Hash, who hails from Eureka and is the son of former Lumberjack and current College of the Redwoods Athletic Director Joe Hash. …Another local connection is Steve Pratt, who attended College of the Redwoods.
