ARCATA – Humboldt State is back on the road this weekend as they travel to Southern California for the second consecutive week to take on two ranked teams, No. 2-ranked Cal State San Bernardino and No. 17-ranked UC San Diego. The Jacks first take on Coyotes Friday night at 7 pm, then the Tritons the following night at the same time.
CSU Bernardino currently sits undefeated in the top spot in the California Collegiate Athletic Association with a 22-0 record overall, 17-0 in conference play. UC San Diego places third in the CCAA as they are 17-4 overall, 13-4 in conference action.

Earlier this season the Jacks were defeated in three sets by both CSUSB and UC San Diego. First by the Coyotes (25-14, 25-17, 25-15), then by UC San Diego (25-19, 25-19, 25-20).

The Jacks split on this past weekend road trip. Friday the Jacks were able to defeat Cal State Dominguez Hills in five sets but came up short on Saturday when they took on Cal State Los Angeles. HSU is currently in the tenth spot for the CCAA rankings, above Cal State Monterey Bay and CSUDH. The Jacks rank fourth amongst the 12 teams with collective digs, led by Brooke Ferguson with 234 digs—third in the CCAA. Oceana Matsubu leads the attacking game for the Jacks, averaging 4.01 kills/set. Bailey Kotas ranks sixth amongst the conference in service aces with 26, while Allison Drobish takes second in total blocks with 75—19 of which are unassisted—and Merry Ellen Ackema is six spots behind her with 66 total blocks.

Cal State San Bernardino moved into the No. 2 national slot after seven consecutive weeks being ranked third in the country by the American Volleyball Coaches Association Top 25 poll. The Coyotes lead the CCAA in hitting percentage (.318) and have collected 1010 kills in 71 sets so far. CSUSB also leads in the blocking game, averaging 2.37 blocks/set, led by Samantha Middleborn who has 93 total blocks.
No. 17 UC San Diego ranks third in the conference with 1065 kills, averaging 13.48 kills/set. The Tritons lead the CCAA in digs with 18.99/set, led by Janessa Werhane in digs with 357 to land her in the conference's No. 2 spot. Katie Condon was named the CCAA Player of the Week after helping the Tritons snag a pair of victories on the road. Condon totalled 31 kills, 32 digs, two aces and four blocks over the two matches.
