ARCATA — Back in the battle for the California Collegiate Athletic Association Tournament crown again, Humboldt State men's basketball will host the Cal State Stanislaus Warriors in a first-round game at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Lumberjack Arena.
By virtue of winning the regular season CCAA title, the Lumberjacks earned the tournament's No. 1 seed. They enter postseason with a 24-2 overall record.
Cal State Stanislaus grabbed the eighth and final seed in the tournament, falling to that position after losing the three-way tiebreaker to Cal State Los Angeles and Chico State. The Warriors bring a 12-14 overall record into the postseason tourney.
Tickets
All tickets are on a first-come, first-served basis and will be available on game day only. The doors open at 6 p.m. Prices are $15 reserved, $8 general admission, $5 for students, seniors and children under 12.

Every Lumberjack basketball game is broadcast live over the local airways on KATA, 1340 AM, beginning with the pregame show 15 minutes prior to game time. Bicoastal Media Sports Director J.B. Mathers describes the action from Lumberjack Arena and HSU Assistant Athletic Director Dan Pambianco goes on the road with the Jacks.

HSU has earned a 36-30 lead in the all-time series, splitting the regular-season games with CSUS this year. The Warriors accounted for one of the Jacks' losses, winning 73-58 on Dec. 4 in Turlock. Humboldt State returned the favor, defeating the Warriors, 77-67 on Feb. 3 in Lumberjack Arena.
Head Coach Steve Kinder
The "Kinder Era" at HSU is off to an 24-2 start, with one regular season conference title already earned wa 20-2 record in the CCAA. After serving as the Jacks' No. 1 assistant for the past 20 seasons, Kinder took over for his mentor, Tom Wood, in 2010-11. As an assistant, he played critical roles in recruiting and coaching while helping the Jacks' 217-77 record achieved during the past decade. Kinder is a former HSU basketball player who was a member of the 1984-85 NCAC championship team. He previously served as a graduate assistant coach for the Lumberjacks (1986-88).

Lumberjack Notes
Humboldt State makes its fourth appearance in the CCAA Championship Tournament, earning a position every year since the event's inception in 2007-08. The Lumberjacks have also won outright or shared the CCAA regular season title four times in the five years since Humboldt State joined the league. HSU has yet to win a conference tournament title. …The winner of Tuesday's game advances to Friday's semifinal game at Hayward. The championship game is set for Saturday, also at Hayward on the campus of Cal State East Bay. …All-conference voting occurred this week, and once the ballots are tabulated the honored players will be announced. Brian Morris has a solid chance to take home honors, as do teammates Randy Hunter and Brandon Sperling. …Morris, the Jacks' 6-9 senior, has been named CCAA Player of the Week three times this season, more than any other player on a contending team. He has also achieved single-games performances of 50 points (an HSU record) and 37 points this season. …The Lumberjacks entered the week ranked No. 3 in the NABC/Division II national poll and No. 2 in the NCAA West Region rankings. The new polls are due out today and Wednesday, respectively. …HSU is nearly certain of earning a spot in the NCAA West Region Championships despite the outcome of the CCAA's tournament. The postseason selections will be announced Sunday evening on a video webcast that can be found on the NCAA.com web site. The women's field be announced, starting at 6:30 p.m. Paciic Time, followed by the men's selections at 10 p.m.
Opponents' Notes
Last year's California Junior College Player of the Year, Reggie Jones, roamed freely in the Warriors' upset of the Lumberjacks in December after HSU big man
Brian Morris was benched with early foul trouble. Jones scored 26 points in the Warriors' win while Morris was limited to less than 20 minutes of court time. …In the second game of the series, in Arcata, Jones put up 15 points while Morris contributed 20 for HSU. …Cal State Stanislaus ended its regular season with two solid wins, defeating San Francisco State, 68-57, and knocking off CSU Monterey Bay, 78-58 on the road last week. …CSU Stanislaus is making its first appearance in the CCAA Tournament, which was held for the first time following the 2007-08 season. … Reggie Jones is fourth in the CCAA in scoring at 16.7 ppg.
