BoxscoreARCATA, Calif. — It was another solid Lumberjack women's soccer effort against a ranked opponent, but it was not enough. No. 25 Cal State San Bernardino slipped past Humboldt State on a second half goal, 1-0, Sunday afternoon.
In the last five minutes, the Jacks' late charge came up empty.
Sarah Sedillo booted an attempt wide at 84:07, before
Lizzie Mitchell blasted the best HSU shot of the match from 20 yards that hit the crossbar.
With the tough loss, HSU fell to 6-6 overall and 1-4 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association matches. The 25
th-ranked Coyotes improved to 10-3 and 3-3 in the CCAA.
"The girls played very well again against one of the top teams in the country," said
Paul Karver, HSU Head Coach. "Both teams had chances, but in the end we didn't make ours and they did."
The Jacks' scoring drought extended to four matches after being shutout Sunday. Despite not scoring the past two weeks, HSU still holds a 163-144 edge in season shots and 19-18 in goals scored over its opponents.
"At some point, hopefully very soon, our goal drought will end, and when that happens, we will start winning games in bunches," said Karver.
After a scoreless opening half, Cal State San Bernardino found the net in the 59
th minute. Jillian Seminara lofted the ball ahead to Kiana Quarles, who dropped the ball over HSU's goalie
Amber Woolcock for the match's lone goal.
On the day, Woolcock saved two shots for the Jacks' defense, but the Coyotes had the 11-6 shot edge.
HSU will travel to southern California to face Cal State Dominguez Hills on Friday starting at 4:30 p.m.
