END STREAK, UPSET SEAWOLVES

For the first time in seven seasons covering 15 matches, the Jacks upset the Seawolves of Sonoma State last Saturday.

In straight sets, HSU recorded the victory, 3-0 (25-21, 25-21 and 25-20), over Sonoma State. Ashley Owen and Nicole Bewley paced the HSU attack with nine kills apiece and combined for five blocks.

The HSU win was the program's first in the series since a 3-2 victory on Sonoma State's home court in 2007. The Jacks also recorded the first home victory against the Seawolves in Lumberjack Arena and first overall in Arcata since Aug. 30, 2006.

EARN FIRST WINNING SEASON

With last week's sweep, HSU clinched its first winning season in 15 years. The Jacks improved to 14-5 overall with seven matches remaining in the regular season.

HSU showed a nine-win improvement last season, but fell short below .500 at 12-17. The North Coast team added two more wins to the total at this point of the 2014 season.

The Jacks produced their last winning campaign in 1999. In that season, HSU finished 15-11.

HSU also sealed its first CCAA season in nine years in the league with at least a .500 record in conference play. The squad stands at 11-4 with seven matches left. The Jacks' previous win-high were seven victories set both in 2008 (7-13) and last year (7-15).
